Hut construction using locally available material
From day one, the students were given some allocated open land within the Varnasrama Campus to build a hut in keeping with proper Vastu standards. Even the younger boys were given the task to built their own small tents.
In spite of hectic theory classes and other services, the students, under the able guidance of HG Vraja Vrindavana prabhu, could get their huts ready (though not fully ready for inhabiting) by the last day of the course.
The tasks included Vastu planning, measuring the land, calculating the garbha (central place in land for construction), searching for suitable construction materials, shifting them to the site, shaping the material to be used, making various knots, lashings and hitches for constructing the trusses, pounding and ramping the mud, closing the roof, and finally making the entrances.
With all the above completed, Their Lordships Sri Sri Krishna Balarama, Sri Sri Gaura Nitai and Srila Prabhupada in their deity forms graced the hut by receiving bhoga and arotik services within the hut.
