Grazing Fences

Project Summary

Build a safe and accessible 7500 feet metal fence around the farming/grazing area of Lot 384.

Fence details

Pasture land would be metal posts and page wire (no barbed wire).

Page wire (aka galvanized netting) and metal posts.  Page wire costs more, but lasts a long time.

6 gates allow residents and cowherders to access grazing land and move cows.

Opportunity

Cows will benefit from more grazing areas and this will regenerate the land.

Metal instead of barbed wire fence

Metal posts can be installed without a machine or tractor.  Unlike wood posts that SVHI uses for fencing, metal posts do not have be replaced after 10-20 years. Page wire is much safer for cows (and people) although more expensive than barbed wire (twice as expensive).

Project Costs

Metal Fence

Fence Posts and Page wire cost: $15,000 (7500 Feet Material Cost @ $2 per foot )
Labour cost: $3,000 (provided by Vedic Eco Village)

Pature Dividing Fences

Fences will be constructed West/East, dividing the land into 3 grazing areas.  Fences made from re-used page wire fence and/or X-fences.  All costs will be covered by Vedic Eco Village

X-Fences in Vedic Eco Village

X-fences will be built around Vedic Eco Village living areas and around the new campground area.  We can build colony fences (aka X-fences) from thinned trees in nearby over-grown forests.  X-fences are moveable, fun to build and require no posts in the ground, so they will last for generations.  All costs will be covered by Vedic Eco Village

Funding Sources

Revenue for the clear cuts in Lot 384: $4,765
Vedic Eco Village: $1,000 + lumber for gates + labor
Balance of Funds:  Private investment
